Reason #1
The great hardware
The PS Vita as powerful, one of the most powerful handhelds. The most powerful is the Nvdia Shield takes the spot for the most powerful handheld, though the Vita is a couple years older, and the Shield isn't particularly a handheld. It's kind of unfortunate that there aren't many games that actually take advantage of the powerful hardware, though there are a lot of upcoming Vita games that might showcase the power of the Vita.
Reason #2
Emulation
The PS Vita doesn't have a load of games that are fit for everyone's needs, but luckily Sony made a lot of original PS1 as well as PSP games available for download. Obviously since you can't insert a UMD in the Vita, there is no physical backwards compatibility but there are a lot of PSP games available to download.
Also the PS1 games don't have all the PS1 games ever made, but the possibility of your favorite PS1 game being available is pretty big. Since this the list of available games.
Reason #3
Game availability
As said above, there aren't too many AAA games available, but the ones that are, are highly praised, for example Killzone: Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Persona 4 etc.. If none of these really tingle your buttons, you might enjoy the wide variety of indie games available on the Vita.
Reason #4
Remote Play
If you own a PS4, and you have problems regarding other people wanting to watch the new The Walking Dead episode, than the Vita is perfect for you. With Remote Play, you can keep playing your favorite PS4 game, but on your Vita. There is a wide variety of games available to stream to the Vita, to fast paced shooters can get a little tricky, even with a perfect internet connection.
Also mention worthy, is that games won't be streamed over 30fps to the Vita, even if it does run above that on the PS4.
Reason #5
Cross-Buy
This is a pretty neat thing if you own multiple Playstation devices. Cross-Buy is basically that if you purchase a game on one console, you won't have to purchase it again for another console, this only works if you have the same account on both consoles though.
Not every game has this feature, but most of the indie games available do have this function.
